The majority of deforestation of the Amazon basin is now occurring outside Brazil.

According to an article in The Washington Post, Brazil has made significant progress in reducing deforestation of the Amazon basin.  Meanwhile, deforestation of the Amazon continues to increase in Peru, Bolivia, Columbia, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana and Ecuador.  As a result, as of 2011, the majority of Amazon deforestation is occurring outside Brazil.
